Hooray for National Scrapbooking Day and Blog Candy

Spring is in full swing here in sunny California. My garden is going crazy with cucumbers, chard and spinach. Still waiting on the tomatoes but they'll be here before you know it.

Another Spring event that I hate to miss is National Scrapbooking Day! This year it falls on May 4th and I'm participating in a fun week of challenges at my favorite "scrappy" website, Crop Chocolate.

I partnered with my fellow Design Team member, Jennifer, to come up with a "Bling it UP" challenge: Make a Card or layout using two different kinds of bling (rhinestones, glitter, Stickles, pearls, etc). You can find the contest by clicking here: Bling it Up Contest

Here are two examples I created for this contest.  This first card is a double-dutch style card using My Mind's Eye Indie Chic paper and stickers. The bling are rhinestones and pearls. I love how it opens up and gives me lots of space to write my greeting.

This next card is also my entry for the "Homage to Summer" challenge from Jasmine and Miwa which can be found here: https://www.cropchocolate.com/contests?page=8

I hope you'll swing on by and participate in all the challenges. Who knows, you might just win a nice prize. Oh, and speaking of prizes... I'm giving away a little blog candy to one random person who comments on this post telling me what they love about scrapbooking! Good Luck.

I just love it when the whole thing you are working on comes together perfectly and you can sand back and smile at how much of a genius you are. ;)

  3. The Double dutch card is so pretty...love the Indie Chic. And the little chick mankes you summer card so cute. I love being able to celebrate special memories by highlighting them with both visually and in words and being able to share them without being just a pile of photos.

  4. I love when I come across old pictures that I put aside because I was stymied and then suddenly am struck with inspiration. And I love it when a scrappy project turns out even better than I intended, and I can actually feel proud of myself!

  7. What I love about scrapbooking is that we can let our imaginations go wild and it helps to "tell" a story that will be remembered for years to come.

  10. You are SO talented, Laura!! I love getting creative to escape from anything and everything that's going on. It keeps me "sane"! I haven't actually made a LO YET, but I have tons of photos ready to be used. I love the preservation of it, and that it gives life to the moment captured.

  11. Love your cards (especially the double dutch one - never heard of that one before).
I love to scrapbook as a way to remember (and to allow my kids to remember later) what we've done as a family. Which so much going on, it gets harder and harder to remember everything. I also love it because it's a way to de-stress and channel my inner creativity.

  12. Awesome cards! I love scrapbooking because I want to think that what I/we did as a family "mattered" and hopefully, some of the stories will be passed down to the next generations.

  13. Oooh, that double-dutch card is a beauty! Now, to answer your question... I love to scrapbook because you get to "play" and yet, at the end of it all, you have produced something that is bound to make somebody somewhere happy. :) As an extra side benefit, you make friends with people who are just as into the craft as you are - and that's pretty darn cool! :)

  14. I use scrapbooking as a creative outlet. I have a degree in Commercial Art and my strong skills have always been design layout and color so now I use them with scrapbooking and card making. I want to leave a legacy for my family, so they know about their family.

  16. I love your beautiful cards! Miwa did a pretty good job of summing up what I love about scrapbooking: the chance to be creative (and play with such pretty and fun toys!), producing something for someone else to enjoy (whether it is a card for a friend or a SB page that my family will have years from now) and, perhaps most of all, the wonderful friendships with people who enjoy the same thing!

  17. Love, love, love your cards!!! I not only have used scrapbooking as a creative outlet, but as an emotional outlet as well. I am most happy when I am in my scrappy space. :) I love the "smell" of my scrappy space when I'm scrappin . . . you know, that "smell" that tells you a scrapper lives here (and not I don't mean the leftover doughnuts on the desk - lol). I used to think of myself as a layout person, but after being on CCDT I now love doing altered arts and using mixed media supplies in my LOs. I am proud to be leaving a legacy of myself for future generations to come. :)
